FOLLOWING a murder and theft of some dollars, yuan’s and kwacha which happened along Parliament road in Lusaka, three more people have been arrested.
Munji Mauma aged 29, Getias Muleya 29 and Benson Chanda aged 23 allegedly attacked and killed a security guard Charles Phiri aged 23, who they found at B and B hotel which is under construction along Parliament road.
The trio are believed to have tied the victim up,forced a cloth into his mouth to keep him from shouting and then shot him.
They then made way into the room of the site watch man, a Chinese National Wang Hong Xing aged 55, who they tied up and stole cash amounting to K2000, USD$150 and 700 yuan, together with two cell phones.
Mr Wang forced the rope which he had been tied with off him and rushed to look for help.
When he found his colleagues, they went looking for the security guard who they found gasping for life on the second floor of the building.
They then rushed him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
After the murder and robbery, Mauma was arrested after being identified by Mr Wang as a former employee, while Chanda was found with safety boots suspected to have been stolen from the site and Muleya was arrested for being found with 400 yuan and a cellphone.
Police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale said the incident occurred on September 6th, around 23:00 hours.
“A security guard identified as Charles Phiri aged 23 was murdered while on duty at the construction site. The suspects also robbed a Chinese national who is a site watchman identified as Wang Hong Xing aged 55 of cash money amounting to K2,000, USD$150 , 700 Yuan and a two cellular phones,” he said.
Mr Mwale said Police were alerted and immediately rushed to the scene where it was revealed that the site watchman was in his room when he saw three armed men who demanded for money after tying his legs with a wire.
He said the suspects went away with the money and phones leaving Mr Wang tied.
“He later untied himself and called for help and together with his friends searched for the security guard who was found unconscious on the second floor of the building while his hands and legs were tied with shoe laces and a cloth around his neck,” he said.
Mr said Mr Wang was able to identify one of the suspects as the former worker at the same Construction site.
“Immediately investigations were instituted leading to the arrest of Munji Mauma and the recovery of one Cellular phone which the Chinese man positively identified. Further, police nabbed Getias Muleya who was found with 400 Chinese yuan and a cellular phone, while Benson Chanda was found with safety boots suspected to have been stolen from the construction site,” he said.
