A 30-YEAR-OLD man of Senanga District has died after he was attacked by a Hippopotamus on the Zambezi River.
Mubita Kuyawa was yesterday had his canoe hit by the hippo while removing fishing nets from the river.
Police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale said Kuyawa fell into the river and was further attacked by the same animal causing deep wounds on his body.
Mr Mwale said the deceased was rescued by other fishermen who rushed him to Senanga General Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
“The incident occurred on September 16, 2023 around 07:30 hours in Kalongola area, Senanga District.The body was deposited in the same Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem and burial,” he said.
Meanwhile, Police have charged and arrested a 42-year-old man of Muoyo area in Western Province for the offence of Attempted Murder.
This was after Lukonge Kashweka while armed with a machete attempted to kill Benson Njekwa Mubinga aged 94 of Namalumba village in Nalolo District.
Mr Mwale said the old man over-powered and managed to disarm the suspect and quickly alerted Police officers.
He was arrested and detained in custody waiting for court appearance.The incident occurred on September 16, 2023 around 07:00 hours at Namalumba village,” he said.
Mr Mwale said the motive behind the attempted murder is yet to be established.
