Scotland clear runway for Bok air raid

Scotland are bracing for the Springboks to drop aerial bombs in the mouth-watering World Cup Pool B showdown at the Stade Velodrome on Sunday.

The Springboks will get their World Cup title defence under way in a Pool B clash against the high-flying Scottish in Marseille (kick-off at 5.45pm).

Scotland will be eager to kick-start their campaign by downing the defending champions, but have only beaten South Africa once in 15 Tests over the past 20 years.

However, they will be able to count on a number of players who did taste victory against the Springboks in the 2021 British & Irish Lions tour.

Veteran scrumhalf Ali Price started in the 22-17 win in the first Test of the series in Cape Town and said Scotland know what they have to do to win on Sunday evening.

“You have to win that aerial kick battle initially, but then also be brave and play some rugby. Ultimately, you have to try and move South Africa around,” Price told the Mail on Sunday.

“You have to play your own rugby. You can’t go into a Test match against South Africa and just get drawn into an arm wrestle up front. Realistically, that probably won’t go well for you.

“Nobody does what South Africa do quite as well as them. Nobody will beat them at their own game. You have to back yourself and play your own game.”
