Probe all previous Abia administrations, not only Ikpeazu govt, former commissioner tells Otti

A former Commissioner for Information in Abia State, John Okiyi Kalu, has faulted the decision of Governor Alex Otti to restrict the panel set up to recover government assets and funds to the previous administration headed by Okezie Ikpeazu.

Okiyi, who served as commissioner of information during Ikpeazu’s administration, said it was wrong to restrict the abia State Probe Panel on recovery of government funds and properties to the 2015-2023 probe period.

He said the administrations that came before Ikpeazu should also be probed.

Okiyi stated these while reviewing the 100 days in office of the Otti administration on Flo 94.9 FM, Umuahia.

He noted that it was wrong for the new administration not to recognise any of the achievements recorded by Ikpeazu, adding that the ongoing probe should not become a means to witch-hunt the previous government.

Maintaining that leadership is a continuum, Kalu insisted that the Ikpeazu administration did its best in serving the people of Abia State.

He further claimed that Otti’s 100 days have not given Abians much results in performance when compered with his campaign promises.

He further alleged that Abia State Executive Council meetings were being held at Otti’s private residence in Isiala Ngwa, rather than the Government House in Umuahia.

According to the former commissioner, the governor should relocate to the Government House or at least, host Executive Council meetings in the complex, rather than taking important state decisions in his country home.

Okiyi, while stressing that he was not afraid to criticize the present Abia administration, said it was the role of members of the opposition party to serve as watchdog in the affairs of the state.
