Cape Town – A Cape Town man has been hailed a hero after rushing into action and slide-tackling an alleged thief who had allegedly stolen a customer’s phone.
A video of the incident that happened at a Cape Town, Parow Spar has since gone viral on social media.
In the video, a man is seen packing shopping baskets when the alleged thief runs past him, and without a second thought, the man springs into action and slides his leg in front of the suspect.
After both of them fall to the ground, the suspect tries to flee but the man is hot on his heels, and with the help of other people, catches up with him before making his exit.
According to TimesLIVE Ronnie M, an employee at the Spar was about to go home when the incident occurred in October last year.

“Suddenly I heard someone shouting, ‘Thief! Thief! Thief!’ So as I turned around, and I just have that feeling of saying, ‘OK, this guy is coming my direction and he does not see me, so I need to make some action.’ So we did some action to the guy,” the report quoted Ronnie as saying.
The suspect was brought inside the store and was arrested by the police, the report said.
The report said Ronnie was awarded R500 for his brave action on the day.
Social media users commenting on the video thought “Rasta” deserved far more for his reflexes that saved the day while some commended his stance on crime.
“That Rast deserves a year of free stuff at that Spar, dam those reflex,” wrote one user while another said: “Ras decided this robbery was not irie.”
