JOHANNESBURG – Organisers of the Cape Town Cycle Tour confirmed the death of a rider at the event, on Sunday.
The cause of the fatality remained undisclosed as full details around the death were still under investigation.
Medical personnel along the route endured a strenuous day as they attended to an estimated 220 cases, 19 of which were referred to the hospital for follow-up treatment.
The post-race medical report indicated that injuries sustained by participants were predominantly due to falls, resulting in soft tissue injuries to knees, elbows, shoulders, and wrists.
