CAPE TOWN – The countdown has begun to the Mother City’s 45th Cape Town Cycle Tour.
While the world’s largest-timed cycle race is known for its 109-kilometer route circling the Cape Peninsula, a new short route of 42 kilometers has been introduced this year.
This will serve as a platform to attract new cyclists, junior riders, and anyone looking to kick-start their journey back into cycling.
Thousands of people have been flocking to Cape Town this week ahead of the flagship event.
Former editor of Ride magazine Tim Brink spoke to CapeTalk’s Lester Kiewit on Friday morning.
He is braving Sunday’s cycle following a stage 4 cancer diagnosis.
“I think I’m probably mentally better off than I am physically. The oncologist looked at me skeef, kind of ‘what the hell are you doing?’ and then said there’s no medical reason not to do what you’re trying to do. I think once she understood the passion that I have for this event, it is such a big part of Cape Town, something we can be so incredibly proud of being a part of.”
