In an attempt to free up some space on the wage bill and freshen up the group, Chiefs management will part ways with a clutch of experienced players.
Club legend Eric “Tower” Mathoho will not be offered a new contract when his current deal expires in June. 32-year-old Khama Billiat hasn’t had the best of times with the Glamour Boys, and won’t be offered new terms either. He’s currently recovering from a long-term injury. A season to forget for the legendary Zimbabwean wide man.
Veteran holding midfielder Cole Alexander could link up with former manager Gavin Hunt at SuperSport next season too, while Phathutshedzo Nange is not part of Arthur Zwane’s plans.
Club captain and talismanic goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune could also be on his way out. The 35-year-old’s contract is expiring in June, but there are whispers he could extend those terms on reduced wages. Longer term, Chiefs are adamant that they want Khune to become part of their coaching framework.
