Nagaland, Meghalaya Elections 2023: Fifty-nine seats are polling in each state.

Assembly polls are being held in Meghalaya and Nagaland today amid tight security. In Meghalaya, the BJP is going it alone after a rift with Conrad Sangma’s NPP and hopes to increase its tally.
Meghalaya will also see a multi-cornered contest, where besides the Congress, BJP and the NPP (National People’s Party), Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress is in fray.
In Nagaland, triangular contests are on the cards in 59 of the 60 assembly constituencies. The BJP, which won 12 of the state’s 60 seats in 2018, is contesting in alliance with the NDPP (Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party). Under the seat-sharing agreement, the NDPP is contesting on 40 seats and the BJP on 20 seats.
The counting of votes of the Assembly Election 2023 will be out on March 2.

NDPP candidate and Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio voted in Kohima district.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that he is receiving “very positive” feedback from his team stationed at polling stations. “People are coming out in large numbers to vote, so we expect that this should be very positive for us. We expect the party will get much-much high numbers than what we had last time,” he said.
Meghalaya Assembly Elections: Around 19,000 Personnel, Polling Staff Deployed On Duty
The Election Commission has stepped up security arrangements for controlling the law and order situation in the state. “11 Zonal magistrates, 73 sector magistrates and nearly 30 Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) companies have been deployed in the district for conducting the smooth election. Each polling team has four personnel. 30 CAPF companies have deployed in vulnerable and critical polling stations,” the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills district told ANI on Sunday.

Nagaland Assembly Polls: Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton Votes In Tyui
Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Yanthungo Patton cast his vote from Riphyim Old III, 37 Tyui in the single-phased Assembly polls on Monday. Patton is contesting from Tyui.
The BJP candidate from Pynthorumkhrah, AL Hek, voted at a polling station in the East Khasi Hills. Flashing his inked finger and posing for the lenses after casting his vote, the BJP candidate also met fellow voters at the polling station, according to ANI.
The first five voters in Meghalaya received mementoes in a bid to encourage robust turnout and voting in the early hours. Polling is underway at 3,419 polling stations across 59 Assembly constituencies of the state.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday urged voters in Meghalaya and Nagaland to cast their votes in record numbers. Assembly polls are being held in the two northeast states on Monday. PM Modi tweeted, “Urging the people of Meghalaya and Nagaland, particularly the young and first time voters, to vote in record numbers today.”
Nagaland Polls: 1 Killed, 13 Injured As Bus Carrying Polling, Security Personnel Overturns In Wokha
One person has been killed and 13 others were injured as a bus carrying polling and security personnel fell from the hill into the jungle in the Wokha district, the Nagaland Police said. The driver of the bus has been killed, according to the police. The injured include eight personnel of the Jharkhand armed police and one of the Nagaland Armed police.

Triangular contests are on the cards in 59 of the 60 assembly constituencies in Nagaland. Four women candidates are contesting the elections in Nagaland this time. While the state has women in leading positions in every sphere, a woman MLA will be a first.
Election Live Updates: BJP Contesting Alone In Meghalaya
In Meghalaya, the BJP is contesting alone after rift with Conrad Sangma’s NPP and hopes to increase its tally.

Northen Angami – It will determine the poll fate of NDPP candidate and Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio;
Tiyu – From where BJP candidate and Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton is contesting
Peren – From where two-time Chief Minister TR Zeliang will be contesting the election as NDPP candidate.
Ghaspani is another seat that is attracting all the eyeballs. BJP has fielded N Jacob Zhimomi and Akavi N Zhimomi is in fray as Congress candidate.
Phek is another constituency to watch out for in the elections. NPF leader Kuzholuzo Nienu will be contesting from this seat. While the NDPP has fielded Kupota Khesoh, Congress has given ticket to Zacilhu Ringa Vadeo and S Akho Leyri is a NPF candidate.
The stage is set for assembly polls in Nagaland, where over 13 lakh voters will decide the electoral fate of 183 candidates contesting in 59 out of a total of 60 seats on Monday.
The ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and the BJP are contesting the polls on a 40:20 seat-sharing basis. The Congress, which ruled the state till 2003 and does not have any member in the current House, has fielded 23 aspirants.
Polling will be held from 7 am to 4 pm, while counting of votes will be taken up on March 2.
Meghalaya is all set for polling in 59 of the 60 assembly seats where more than 21.6 lakh voters will seal the fate of 369 candidates on Monday, as the ruling National People’s Party will fight to retain power, while the BJP and Trinamool Congress will attempt to unseat the incumbent government from power.
Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor said preparations for conducting a free, fair and peaceful election have been completed.
