Kaizer Chiefs have missed out on reported long-term Zambian midfield target Clatous Chama, who was a free agent for a very short time during this current window.
Chama who, Chiefs have reportedly been courting since his days plying his trade for Zambian giants Zesco United has now rejoined Tanzanian giants Simba SC.
Chama joined Simba instead
Simba had previously beaten Chiefs to the signing of Chama, during the same transfer window that saw his fellow Zambian International Lazarous Kambole join the Amakhosi. The two caught the eye of the Chiefs management when they ran them ragged over two legs in the CAF Confederations Cup four season ago now.
Even though the media did report that there is an increasing interest in the player, it is still not clear if Chiefs actually followed through with their interest and made an official bid for Chama. The forward, instead ended up at Simba, but links with the Glamour Boys did not disappear and persisted to such an extent that he spoke out openly about his dream of playing for Chiefs one day, and that it remained alive.
Chiefs dream revealed
“Not at all. It’s still there (Chiefs dream) . It’s quite alive and it’s still fresh. I I hope for it surely comes through, Yeah, I’m looking forward to that. I mean, the PSL is quite good. I normally pay attention to most of the players that are here and so much. I have so many friends here. We’re from Zambia. So I normally follow it up.” Chama said last season, ahead of Amakhosi’s CAF Champions League first leg tie with Simba.
After then explaining that if Chiefs wanted him, they would have to go through the correct channels to get him. However, a team would end up doing just that, but it was not Chiefs. Chama’s next move came at the beginning of this season when he joined Berkane from Algeria. That move turned out to be a disaster for the player however, as the player’s contract got terminated citing the fact he was struggling to adapt to life in Algeria.
Dream surely over now?
Chiefs have not been known to have shown any strong public interest since he joined Simba and and 30, it seems like Chama’s dream of playing for Chiefs may now be unlikely to ever materialise.
