What we know about the IPL 2022 mega auction

The IPL 2022 mega auction is all set to be the biggest such event in the history of T20 franchise cricket.

The BCCI has bumped the salary purse up to close to R190 million per team and two new franchises have joined the fray.

The eight existing IPL franchises were given the option to retain up to four of their pool of previously contracted players. 

The two new franchises have the option to sign three players from those released- two domestic and one overseas – from the outset of December until Christmas Day (25 December).

IPL 2022 Retained Players List

Chennai Super Kings (CSK)– Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Moeen Ali, and Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Delhi Capitals (DC)– Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Prithvi Shaw, and Anrich Nortje.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)– Andre Russell, Venkatesh Iyer, Varun Chakravarthy, and Sunil Narine.

Mumbai Indians (MI)– Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, and Kieron Pollard.

Punjab Kings (PBKS)– Mayank Agarwal, and Arshdeep Singh.

Rajasthan Royals (RR)– Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler, and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)– Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and Mohammed Siraj.

SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH)– Kane Williamson, Umran Malik and Abdul Samad.

When is the IPL 2022 Mega Auction?

The BCCI have not announced the date and time of IPL 2022 mega auction at this time. However sources within the governing body have told reporters that the IPL 2022 auction is likely to take place in the first week of January 2022. 

What will each team be able to spend at auction?

The retained players contract fees are deducted from each teams total auction purse.

Here is the breakdown of what each team’s purse will be:

Note: Crore equals 10 million INR (Approx R2million)

Punjab Kings (PBKS) – 72 Crore

SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) – 68 Crore

Rajasthan Royals (RR) – 62 Crore

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) – 57 Crore

Mumbai Indians (MI) – 48 Crore

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) – 48 Crore

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) – 48 Crore

Delhi Capitals (DC) – 47.5 Crore

Lucknow- 90 Crore

Ahmedabad– 90 Crore

Who will be available for the IPL 2022 mega auction?

The list of available players has yet to be made public, but a large pool of overseas stars and even some lesser known T20 guns for hire will throw their hats into the ring for the 2022 IPL Mega Auction.
