Elections 2021: Voters ‘struggling’ to find ActionSA on ballots

Nov 1, 2021

It seems what ActionSA had been voicing concern over is actually happening. The party says it has received reports of voters who have not been able to find it on ward ballots at their voting stations.

Remember: ActionSA’s abbreviated name does not appear on ballot papers, something which the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) blamed the party for. The electoral body says ActionSA failed to submit an abbreviated name when it first registered as a party. The party subsequently approached the Electoral Court to have the IEC forced to add its name on the draft ballot papers, arguing voters might get confused when the name doesn’t appear.

ActionSA urges voters to report ‘missing name’ from ballots

ActionSA has now encouraged its voters to report wards with ballot papers that do not feature the party, particularly in regions they are contesting in Johannesburg, Tshwane, Ekurhuleni, eThekwini, Newcastle and KwaDukuza.

They have been encouraged to report this here.

“ActionSA is determined to ensure that elections are safe, free and fair whilst making ensuring that voters have a true opportunity to bring change to their communities – for their benefit, that of their loved ones and their community,” said ActionSA spokesperson Lerato M-Ngobeni.

The party says where problems exist on the ballot, they will work together with the IEC to address sure voters’ concerns.

ActionSA adds that it has taken several measures to help potential voters identify the party on their ballot papers. This includes the preparation of dummy ballot papers for ActionSA volunteers to assist voters (outside voting stations) to identify the party on the ballot paper

“We equally encourage our voters to report any incident where they are prevented from receiving assistance in identifying our logo on the ward ballot paper. Today’s elections are all about beginnings”
