A video of an Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) supporter wearing his red Berea and EFF T-shirt and arguing with several police officers about taking a photograph inside a polling station has gone viral on social media.

The video shows the EFF member and another man wearing a white T-shirt who appears to be with him, arguing with the police about why they had apparently been confronted about taking a photograph of a ballot box. It is unclear at this stage, at exactly which polling station the incident occurred, although it is believed that it was at a polling station somewhere in Gauteng. The polling station appears to be empty at the time of the argument.

It is unclear in the video whether the men had actually managed to take the photograph that had sparked the argument.

In the video one man wearing a white T-shirt asks the police officers: “Is it illegal to be shooting? (taking a photograph)” and the second man, wearing the EFF T-shirt and red Berea shouts out angrily: “ We did nothing.”

The man in the white t-shirt is then seen gently kicking the box along the floor before he points to it and says to the police that “there is nothing illegal about shooting this box”.

EFF member lambasts ‘calm’ police officers

The man in the red EFF t-shirt then accuses the police of being “biased” and shouts to the officers repeatedly, waving his arms about in defiance.

He shouted: “Arrest us! Arrest us! Arrest us! I am telling you to arrest us. What crime have we done here? Why do you hate yourself like this black man? ”

Remarkably, the police officers, remained calm and did not respond to the provocation. Instead, one of the police officers is seen making a call on his cellphone, possibly to seek assistance from a superior regarding the incident.

The man in the white t-shirt then states emphatically: “What is the problem of shooting? We were just taking a picture. There is nothing wrong with that. We have done it everywhere.”

The EFF supporter then shouts out again: “Arrest us! We are not afraid of prison chief!”

The SAPS had not responded to a request for comment at the time of publication. It is unclear at this stage whether or not the men were arrested.
