Chippa United are believed to be running out of patience with regards Mahlambi who they signed on a season-long loan deal from Mamelodi Sundowns.

Mahlambi was an exciting prospect at Wits

Mahlambi burst on to the seen as an exciting young winger at the now defunct Bidvest Wits. His performances for the club saw his name on everybody’s lips in the South African football fraternity. It was then not long until he was linked with every top club in the DStv Premiership but then shocked many by deciding to take the road less travelled by joining Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

Mahlambi did not last very long at Al Ahly in Egypt, and after a rather unfruitful spell, he found himself back in the country with Sundowns snapping him up. Despite showing flashes here and there, Mahlambi was never really able to cement himself into the Brazilians starting line up.

Off field issues have seemed to derail his progress

Most of his failures at Sundowns were attributed to his off field antics, which former coach Pitso Mosimane, had kept on eluding too during his tenure at Chloorkop. Last season Mahlambi was shipped off to Amazulu on a loan spell that was intended to revitalise his stagnating career under the guidance Benni McCarthy.

Unfortunately for Mahlambi he suffered more of the same fate at Amazulu, with not even the presence of McCarthy proving effective. It was thought that, it was again, off field issues that reared their ugly head, as he struggled to make any sort of impact at all at Usuthu.

Started brightly at Chippa

Now this season, in what many considered to be a last throw of the dice as a contracted Sundowns player, he was shipped off to yet another loan spell. This time he would be placed under the guidance of his former coach and the experience of Gavin Hunt. Early on, it looked like he was getting a positive reaction from Mahlambi.

Sources now claim his days may be numbered at the club

However, according to sources speaking to The Citizen, Mahlambi is allegedly back to his old ways, with Hunt having already had enough and similarly so have Chippa United.

“Chippa United are understood to be looking to pull the plug on Phakamani Mahlambi, who joined the club on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns. Phakaaathi has been told that the former Al-Ahly player is back to his old ways and Hunt is allegedly unhappy and might release him from his team.” Wrote the publication.

Could this already be the end of the road for Mahlambi at Chippa United? Will Sundowns also then finally pull the plug on him?
