Morne Steyn has signed a contract extension with the Bulls that will see him remain at Loftus Versfeld until June 2023.
The 37-year-old flyhalf recently announced his international retirement, but will remain part of Bulls head coach Jake White’s squad for the next 18 months.
Blue Bulls Rugby Union president Willem Strauss revealed the news in a post on Twitter.
“Morne Steyn’s contract has been extended to June 2023! This product of Sand du Plessis HS in Bloemfontein’s value as mentor and player is immeasurable. A true Vodacom Bulls and Springbok legend of his generation!” tweeted Strauss.
Morne Steyn played 68 Tests and scored 742 points for the Springboks after making his debut in 2009 against the British & Irish Lions.
He finished his career as South Africa’s second-highest point scorer of all time behind Percy Montgomery’s tally of 893.
Earlier this year, he kicked the winning penalty against the tourists in the decisive third Test to secure a series victory for the Springboks – exactly 12 years after doing exactly the same in the second Test of the 2009 British & Irish Lions tour.
