Oct 29, 2021

New information has emerged surrounding the passing of actor Thapelo Maropefela, who tragically died on the eve of his 25th birthday.

The Kingdom star – who was laid to rest in a funeral service today (Friday 29 October) – reportedly died in his sleep after he was allegedly beaten by a group of security guards over the weekend.

Now a police source has divulged new information surrounding the mysterious passing of the star.

Thapelo Maropefela: What happened?

According to Daily Sun, a police source claims the actor was found unresponsive on Sunday 25 October in his Airbnb apartment in Fairland, Johannesburg.

The source also revealed what allegedly transpired the night before in the attack that left Thapelo Maropefela with critical injuries.

The source reveals that Thapelo – who lived in Cape Town – had travelled to Jozi for a pre-birthday celebration with his friends on Saturday evening 24 October. Trouble ensued when one of the actor’s friends reportedly angered security guards outside a pub.

The insider claimed: “It is understood the friend started urinating against the wall of one of the buildings and security personnel roughened him up.

“When Thapelo tried to help his friend, the guards allegedly assaulted him too. They kicked him as he lay down”.

Thapelo Maropefela was then taken by his friends to Sandton Mediclinic to receive medical treatment for his injuries. Unfortunately, the star did not have medical aid and was told to go to Helen Joseph Hospital instead.

“It’s unclear if they took him there or not,” claims the informant.

Some time later, Thapelo and his friends returned to his Airbnb where his friends continued partying, while the star went to bed.

According to the insider, Thapelo awoke to engage with the owners of the Airbnb who asked him and his guests to “keep the noise down”.

“He was ok then”.

The source added that Thapelo “went back to sleep” during the course of Saturday night, but was found unresponsive on Sunday after his girlfriend attempted to make contact with him.

The source continued: “She asked him [Thapelo’s friend] to wake Thapelo up and when the friend tried to, he didn’t respond. They called an ambulance and he was certified dead on the scene”.

A Facebook account reportedly belonging to Thapelo’s mother, Ivy Masokoane, has also shed light on the star’s death.

The account claims that Thapelo was allegedly killed by a group of eight Zimbabwean men.
