Speaking to the media, Mokwena confirmed that Gaston Sirino will undergo a late fitness test after missing Sundowns’ last encounter due to ‘a severe bout of flu’.

According to Mokwena, Sirino has not trained with his Sundowns teammates in preparation for this important final against Cape Town City as he’s bedridden.

However, the Sundowns technical team is crossing fingers that he be declared fit so that they can be able to field him.

“We’re hoping that Gaston Sirino passes a late medical test. It’s not even a fitness test because it’s not really an injury,” confirmed Mokwena.

“He missed the last game with a very severe bout of flu. He hasn’t started training with us because he’s still bedridden but we are quite hopeful and crossing our fingers that he’s available for the game,” he said.

Meanwhile, midfielder Mothobi Mvala and defender Rushine de Reuck have returned to training after struggling niggling injuries in the last few days.

However, Mokwena said the duo are not in the space of being given the green light to feature in the team’s competitive matches.

“But apart from that a lot of players who were on the injury list; Mthobi Mvala has resumed training, Rushine de Reuck has resumed training – are just not in that space of having been declared ready,” confirmed Mokwena.

“So, apart from that, we’re looking in a better space than we looked before the Golden Arrows,” added Mokwena.
