Just a week after warming the hearts of millions of Kaizer Chiefs fans, Bernard Parker is set for a ‘new role’ in the team.

Parker netted twice as Chiefs beat SuperSport United last Sunday, and, as a result, he’s now the club’s all-time top goalscorer in the PSL with 60 goals.

After struggling to find the back of the net on a regular basis for years at Chiefs, Parker was moved to a deeper role by the previous coaches.

However, Stuart Baxter’s return appears to have revitalized Parker, and the former Bafana Bafana mentor has hinted at a more advanced role for the veteran skipper.

Parker arrived at Chiefs as a striker, and he blossomed in his first few seasons, and with him now scoring, he is set to pushed high up the field.

And while this wouldn’t necessarily be new to Parker as he’s played there before, the fact that he’s playing on the side of the team’s front three means it’s a position he’s not entirely familiar with.

Furthermore, Baxter believes the 35-year-old attacker still has a lot to offer the club, and this despite calls for Chiefs to let him go.

“At the moment, the position he’s been playing in, he’s scoring goals in that position, his movement is clever,” said Baxter in interview with Radio 2000.

“We’ve worked very hard on the movement of our front players, they’ve got a good understanding at the moment.

“They’re a handful. They’re pressing very well when we’re defending,” he continued.

“So, Bernard, in that position, he’s enjoying his game and he’s showing that he’s still got a lot to offer,” added Baxter.
