Boy died after jumping onto moving cane truck in KwaZulu-Natal

A young boy died after he jumped onto a moving cane truck to remove sugar cane when he slipped and was pulled into and under the trailer wheels.

THE BOY DIED ON THE SCENE AS A RESULT OF THE INJURIES HE SUSTAINED

According to IPSS, the incident happened on the R102 Etete on Thursday morning.

IPSS Medical Rescue, paramedics responded to reports of a road accident on the R102 near Etete.

“Upon the arrival of paramedics, it was ascertained that a young boy had jumped onto a moving cane truck to remove sugar cane when he slipped and was pulled into and under the trailer wheels.”

IPSS said the boy sustained multiple traumatic injuries, and paramedics worked to stabilise him.

“Sadly, his injuries were extensive and severe and, despite best efforts, the boy passed away.”

The police were in attendance and will investigate further.

Earlier this month IPSS also responded to a tractor roll-over accident on the Dolphin Coast. Two people were killed, and eleven others were injured.

“IPSS Medical Rescue paramedics, together with Lenmed Ethekwini paramedics and IPSS Search and Rescue division, responded to reports of a tractor that had overturned on a nearby farm.

“On arrival of advanced life support paramedics, it was established that a tractor had overturned resulting in a mass casualty incident.”

It said one person was critically injured, and paramedics worked to stabilise the patient whilst crews managed a further ten moderately injured persons.

“Unfortunately, two persons were fatally injured and were declared dead on the scene.

“The injured were transported to medical facilities. Our thoughts to those affected.”

The police were in attendance and will investigate further.
