Man shot and killed in the Durban CBD

A man was gunned down in Russel Street in the Durban CBD on Thursday.

THE MAN SUSTAINED A GUNSHOT WOUND TO HIS CHEST

Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said they responded to the shooting just before midnight on Thursday morning.

“Just before midnight on Thursday morning, Emer-G-Med paramedics were called to the scene of Russel Street in the Durban CBD for reports of a shooting incident.”

He said on arrival on the scene, a man, believed to be approximately thirty-five years of age, was found to be in a critical condition, having suffered a gunshot wound to the chest.

“Advanced life support intervention was needed to stabilize him, before he was transported rapidly by ambulance under the care and monitoring of an Emergency Care Practitioner, to a nearby specialist facility for immediate definitive care.”

Van Reenen said the man’s condition deteriorated later in hospital, and he died to his extensive injuries.

“The South African Police Services will be investigating the matter accordingly.”

Earlier this week, another man was gunned down in what is believed to be a hit.

Van Reenen said paramedics, together with the South African Police Services, responded to reports of a shooting incident in Armstrong Avenue in the La Lucia Ridge area just after 8 am on Tuesday.

“On arrival on the scene, a high-end luxury vehicle was found peppered with bullet holes, having rammed through a gate to business premises.

“Closer inspection found a man, believed to be approximately forty-five years of age, seated in the vehicle, with fatal gunshot wounds.”

Van Reenen said the man was declared dead on the scene.

“The scene will be investigated by the South African Police Services.”
