Bafana Bafana international Percy Tau has scored a brace on his Al Ahly debut on Wednesday evening.
Tau’s two debut goals helped Al Ahly to an impressive 4-0 thrashing of rivals Ismaily in the opening game of the 2021/22 Egyptian Premier League season.
Al Ahly in unforgiving mood
Al Ahly came out of the blocks firing in their attempt to regain the much coveted Egyptian Premier League title, with a Tau brace helping the Red Devils to a quickifre 3-0 lead with just 30 minutes gone on the clock. The tricky winger was joined on the scoresheet by Ali Maaloul and Ahmed Abdelkader.
Tau was lively throughout the game, and even thought he had marked an unforgettable debut for Al Ahly with a hat trick but was unfortunately denied by the offside flag as teammate Mohamed Magdy Afsha was adjudged to gave strayed in the build up to Tau putting the ball in the back of the net.
With those two goals, Tau reached the milestone of being the first foreign player to score for the club since John Antwi, who had netted a super hat-trick against El-Gouna back in 2015.
Tau found himself one one one with the last Ismaily defender, who he dribbled past with relevant ease in trademark style to score his first goal for Al Ahly, as well as double their lead. His second goal would come not too long after, with a brilliantly taken right footed effort in the 35th minute.
Now fully fit!
Tau has been hard at working trying to recover from an injury as well as reach full fitness since joining Al Ahly from English Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion. Not so long ago he was threatened with a contract termination had he defied the club’s advice not to join up with Bafana Bafana having been fresh from an injury.
Now all seems to have been forgotten, with Tau announcing himself to Red Devils fans in grand style.
