After being hit by a car and left for dead on the side of a Johannesburg road, Buddy, a black Labrador cross, was found by local residents who were devastated to see him suffering. That’s when they made the life decision to rescue him by taking him to a local vet.

Buddy gets a new lease on life

Kind Johannesburg residents from Linden made the gruesome discovery on the side of the road and decided not to leave it at that. After taking Buddy to a vet, they heard that the vet couldn’t do anything because his owners did not want to give them permission to start treating the dog.

“This beautiful black labby cross boy was hit by a car on the 17th of October and left on the side of the road. He was badly injured. Some very kind residents picked him up and took him to a local vet.

“They could not assist him as his owners wouldn’t permit any treatment done on him,” reads a post shared by Linden Community on Facebook.

While they did not know why the owners refused to allow treatment, many suspected that they were simply unable to afford treatment for their pet which can sometimes be very costly.

They then made the truly heartwarming decision to raise funds from willing community members who did not hesitate to give what they can towards Buddy’s hospital fees.

Buddy makes a full recovery

“Buddy was close to giving up, but when he saw the love in our eyes, and he saw how determined we were to fight for him, his demeanor changed drastically.”

They also explain how Buddy underwent an operation on his pelvic bone that saw pins getting inserted on the left and right sides of his body. Buddy will also need therapy to help him walk again, as well as a number of pain management medications.

The community has since set up a BackaBuddy crowdfunding page for those who would like to assist.
