Despite coming in for heaps of criticism over the years from Amakhosi fans, McGregor has praised now 35-year-old Parker for his persistence and determination.

“Well done to him, I mean to do something like that is very difficult and obviously congratulations to him,” McGregor told Kickoff.

“It hasn’t been easy, but as you know he’s been playing well of late, so yes congratulations on that it’s a big achievement.

“I think now it’s the hard work he’s been putting in and the experience you know. He’s learned what the game is about and he knows exactly what he needs to do.

“Yes the team went through bad patch but I think it’s the hard work that made the big change at the moment.

“He seems to be gelling well with the rest of the players they are forming a good combination at the moment so I think he had a lot to do with it. You know at times when you haven’t got the right players around you it makes your job a bit harder. I think because of Dolly, because of Billiat it has made it easier for him. I’ve been quite impressed with his work rate.”

McGregor, now 57, played over 100 matches for Kaizer Chiefs between 1987 and 1994.
