Amazulu Football Club are believed to have re-ignited their interest in Supersport United striker Thamsanqa Gabuza.

Gabuza was originally a transfer target for Amazulu in the off season, but nothing came off that interest as he stayed at Supersport United.

McCarthy known to be a big fan

Amazulu head coach Benni McCarthy is thought to be a huge fan of his former teammate at Orlando Pirates, and the latest reports seem to indicate that he is a wanted man at again at Usuthu, with McCarthy keen to prize him away from Supersport United and re-unite with him in Durban.

The initial reports that Gabuza could be of interest to Amazulu started circulating in May. The reasons given at the time where that, McCarthy was preparing for life without Lehlohonolo Majoro and that Gabuza was the exact type of “focal point” striker that McCarthy envisioned his Usuthu team playing with. It was also believed that, seeing as though Gabuza is originally from KwaZulu -Natal a potential homecoming would appeal to him.

But in the end, Majoro would end up staying put at Amazulu with Bonginkosi Ntuli, an almost forgotten striker the season before, now being trusted to play that target man role under McCarthy. That, perhaps, is the reason why Gabuza also remained at Supersport United in the end, where he has continued to be an integral part of coach Kaitano Tembo’s side.

Amazulu set to tempt SuperSport United with offer for Gabuza?

However, if sources speaking to The Citizen are to be believed, it looks as if, Amazulu’s historic CAF Champions League group stage qualification could prove to be the catalyst they needed to test the resolve of Supersport United once again, for the services of Gabuza

“Now that AmaZulu are in the group stages of the Caf Champions League, they will get an opportunity to beef up the team in January before the group stages kick-off in February. AmaZulu want to add players with Champions League experience and Gabuza knows all about that after he travelled the continent with Orlando Pirates,” said the source.

Do you think Gabuza to Amazulu is a good move? Or should he stay at Supersport?
