Al Ahly have found Cavin Johnson‘s replacement as the Egyptian Premier League season is about to get underway.
On Tuesday, the ‘Club of the Century’ confirmed the appointment of former Al Ahly player Ashraf Awad as their new assistant coach.
Al Ahly took their time to appoint a second assistant to Pitso Mosimane, and that’s perhaps because of the compromise both parties had to make.
When Mosimane joined Al Ahly in October 2020, part of the agreement was that he’d bring in a South African coach as his assistant.
Mosimane initially tried to lure Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rhulani Mokwena to Al Ahly but that proposed deal failed to materialize.
Mosimane then opted for Johnson who has since left the club after just one year into the job.
“The board approved on appointing Ashraf Awad, former Al Ahly player, as the first team’s assistant coach,” said Al Ahly in a statement.
