Warnings for severe thunderstorms with a combination of hail, strong winds, and excessive lightning has been issued for Wednesday.
THE PUBLIC IS ADVISED TO STAY INDOORS IF POSSIBLE
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) said warning level 2 was issued for the Western Cape and Eastern Cape.
“Localized damages to infrastructure, settlements, property, and vehicles can be expected due to the combination of hail, strong winds and excessive lightning.”
It said some disruptions to livelihoods could also be expected.
“Danger to livestock and localized short term disruptions to electricity supply can also be expected. Heavy downpours may result in flash flooding and localized traffic disruptions.”
The SAWS advised the public to stay indoors.
“Stay indoors, if possible, away from open windows. -not to lean against trees, poles, and tall buildings -to be aware of fallen objects if driving”
It furthermore said difficulty in navigation at sea due to rough and choppy conditions can also be expected.
“Small vessels and personal watercrafts (e.g. kayaks) are at risk of taking on water and capsizing in a locality. Localised disruption of small harbours for a short period of time may also occur.
“Small boats must stay away from the open sea and seek the shelter of a harbour, river estuary, or protected bay. Ensure that all temporary structures are well anchored.”
Meanwhile, the SAWS has issued a level 10 warning for veld fire conditions in Twee Rivieren for Tuesday.
“Conditions are such that the FDI index is above 75. Under these conditions, fires may develop and spread rapidly, resulting in damage to property and possible loss of human and/or animal life.”
It furthermore said fire teams are on standby.
