A truck driver protest has brought the N3 Toll Route near Montrose in the Free State to a standstill on Tuesday morning, 26 October.

N3 TRUCK DRIVERS BRING TRAFFIC TO A HALT

As of 5:42 on Tuesday, the N3 Toll concession (N3TC) reported that the N3-7X Km 13 near Montrose is closed.

Traffic is at a standstill in both directions and is reportedly backlogged between Van Reenen, KwaZulu-Natal and Harrismith, Free State. The backlog is also causing delays for motorists heading northbound to Gauteng at Tugela Plaza, according to Arrive Alive.

“Law enforcement is on the scene, monitoring the situation. Motorists are advised to delay travel to the area,” said the N3TC.

The alleged N3 truck driver protest comes after drivers protested in Middelburg, Eastern Cape on Sunday, 24 October. The truckers blocked the N10 in that province. Some local drivers are reportedly aggrieved by the “dominance of foreign nationals” as truck drivers in the industry, according to a petition handed to Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula by the protestors.
