The morning school and work run turned into a hellish nightmare for parents when suspects opened fire and killed a motorist who was travelling in his vehicle along Armstrong Avenue in La Lucia on Tuesday morning.
According to people at the scene of the murder the suspects fired shots into the man’s vehicle which was surrounded by parents who were taking their children to school at around 8am.

Emer-G-Med paramedics spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said that a team of paramedics and the police had responded to reports of a shooting incident in Armstrong Avenue in the La Lucia Ridge area just after 8am on Tuesday.
“On arrival on scene a high end luxury vehicle was found peppered with bullet holes, having rammed through a gate to a business premises. Closer inspection found a male, believed to be approximately forty-five years of age, seated in the vehicle, with fatal gunshot wounds. He was declared dead on arrival by paramedics,” Van Reenen said.
Marshall Security spokesperson Andreas Mathios said a team of armed response officers and the firm’s special operations team had responded to a call for assistance at the shooting in progress.
“Marshall Security armed response officers together with our special operations team responded to a call for assistance. Upon arrival it was discovered that a person had been shot inside his vehicle. The circumstances around the shooting are yet to be investigated,” he said.
“The SAPS who are currently at the scene are piecing together the circumstances leading to the shooting,” Mathios added.
The latest shooting is one of a string of hits that have taken place in KwaZulu-Natal in recent months, including the shooting of Economic Freedom Fighters ward councillor candidate, Thulani Shangase, in the Pietermaritzburg area last weekend. Shangase was shot and killed on Sunday 17 October at around 5pm in the Herwood, in Plessislaer.
