The breaking news came at the toss just 30 minutes ahead of the first delivery.

Earlier in the day Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed that it was forcing ALL Proteas players to “take a knee” ahead of the remaining T20 World Cup matches.

Quinton de Kock did NOT “take a knee” ahead of the Proteas’ opening match against Australia.

At this stage it’s unclear if that’s the reason for De Kock’s withdrawal.

Reeza Hendricks replaced De Kock in the starting XI while Heinrich Klaasen will wear the wicketkeeper gloves.

Bavuma won the toss and elected to bowl.
