All Blacks star Beauden Barrett broke a near 24 month try scoring drought when he dotted down against the USA in New Zealand’s 104-14 win in Washington DC on Saturday.
The five-pointer was Barrett’s first Test try since the bronze playoff at the 2019 Rugby World Cup – one week shy of two years ago and some 16 Tests ago in his career.
It was his 37th try in the famed black jersey and lifted the 30-year-old clear of Tana Umaga on New Zealand’s all-time Test try scorers list – and level in seventh spot with the late, great Jonah Lomu.
With four Tests to come on the team’s northern hemisphere tour – against Wales, Italy, Ireland and France – Beauden Barrett, who in his next outing will become the 11th All Black to reach 100 Test caps, could catch former team-mate Ben Smith (sixth on 39 tries) by the end of the year.
In addition to his 37 tries, at the time of publishing Beauden Barrett has also kicked 164 conversions, 58 penalties and two drop goals in his international career to date.
