Supersport United suffered a 1-2 defeat at home to Kaizer Chiefs at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday night.

A fine brace from Chiefs captain on the night, from Bernard Parker, was enough to gift the Amakhosi a victory over Supersport United.

Chiefs had the best chance early on

It was largely a tactical affair between the two sides, with both clubs giving as good as they got. It was the Supersport United goalkeeper and captain Ronwen Williams who was arguably the busiest of the two goalkeepers on the evening, and he was forced to make a sharp dive to his left to repel a strike from Parker which was destined for the bottom corner.

They eventually took the lead through Parker

Williams was eventually beaten in rather unconvincing fashion, just a minute into first half added on time, when Keagan Dolly’s incisive run through the Supersport United defenders eventually set up Parker for a first time strike on his right foot, that would creep right underneath the Bafana Bafana number one, and should’ve undoubtedly left him disappointed.

Supersport United equaliser

Just when one thought, that was the goal scoring done for the half, Supersport United had other ideas. Matsatsantsa earned a free kick from which they forced Chiefs central defender-cum-midfielder Njabulo Ngcobo to score an own goal.

Chiefs would not drop their heads however, and barely five minutes into the second half, they again went ahead and it was the duo of Dolly and Parker who linked up again, with Parker punishing Supersport United in the 49th minute which earned the Amakhosi a 2-1 victory, and three points from the nation’s capital city.

Gabuza’s warning cry

But even before the two teams went on to the field, it seemed like Supersport United striker Thamsanqa Gabuza had already sounded out an hilarious warning to Chiefs defender Eric Mathoho, one that is synonymous to the funny character the former Bafana Bafana international is known for.
