‘The Lost Daughter’: Olivia Colman dazzles in spine-chilling trailer [watch]

Netflix released the official trailer for the film The Lost Daughter starring Olivia Colman on 18 October. 

OLIVIA COLMAN STARS IN ‘THE LOST DAUGHTER’

Adapted from Elena Ferrante’s 2006 novel of the same title, The Lost Daughter stars Olivia Colman as Leda. The film is directed by first-time writer-director Maggie Gyllenhaal, who also produces.

“Maggie Gyllenhaal makes her feature directorial debut this year with the release of #TheLostDaughter, a film adaptation of the elusive author Elena Ferrante’s 2006 novel,” wrote The Lost Daughter on Instagram.

The film hits theatres on 17 December and will then go to Netflix on 31 December. The film received acclaim from critics since its premiere at film festivals. The Lost Daughter won Best Screenplay prize at the Venice International Film Festival.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM ‘THE LOST DAUGHTER’

While on a seaside vacation, Leda becomes consumed with a young mother (played by Dakota Johnson) and daughter as she watches them on the beach. She then becomes overwhelmed by her own memories of terror and confusion of early motherhood.

“A college professor confronts her unsettling past after meeting a woman and her young daughter while on vacation in Italy. Her obsession with the woman and her daughter prompts memories of her early motherhood,” reads the film’s synopsis.

“An impulsive act shocks Leda into the strange and ominous world of her own mind, where she is forced to face the unconventional choices she made as a young mother and their consequences,” according to Deadline.
