Their reward was a spot in this season’s CAF Champions League in their maiden appearance in the tournament.

In the first preliminary round, AmaZulu beat Nyasa Big Bullets FC of Malawi 3-2 on aggregate.

In the second preliminary round, McCarthy’s side were drawn against CAF Champions League veterans TP Mazembe who, as five-time champions, know all about Africa’s premier continental tournament.

The first leg of their tie ended goalless in KwaZulu-Natal last Friday.

McCarthy and his team certainly have their work cut out for them and head into the match as heavy underdogs, but will know they have the full backing of South African football fans behind them.

TP Mazembe boast an impressive home record against South African sides having lost just ONE of the seven matches in which they have hosted a PSL side.

The other six matches have seen TP Mazembe win three and draw three.

Kick-off is scheduled for 16:00 SA time.
