Passenger killed as car crashes into tree and burns

A passenger has been killed in a gruesome crash after the vehicle flew into a large tree before the engine caught fire in Hillcrest, Durban on Saturday morning.

PASSENGER KILLED, CAR CRASHES INTO A GIANT TREE

According to paramedics at the scene, the deceased passenger was traveling on Durban’s M13 before the collision in the wee hours of the morning.

“M13 eastbound before Hillcrest off-ramp motor vehicle accident, there is a fire engine on scene,” Paramedics, SAPS, and Firefighters South Africa reported.

The report said only one fatality has been confirmed as of 08:00 this morning, which suggests the driver of the vehicle may have survived the gory accident.

“Collision occurred at approximately 03h30 this morning. 2 occupants in the vehicle. Passenger deceased. The scene still active expect delays until recovery has been completed.”

23 CHILDREN HOSPITALISED IN TAXI CRASH

Elsewhere in KwaZulu Natal, a taxi crash sent 23 children to the hospital after a collision with an SUV happened during a trip to school in Ntuzuma. The crash happened in Mafukuzela Road on Thursday morning.

The kids are understood to be seriously injured but no fatalities have been confirmed yet.

“Medics assessed the scene a found approximately 23 children who had sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious,” Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst said.

“All the patients were treated on scene and once stabilised were transported by ambulance to the hospital for further care.”
